COMPOSING AN UPTOWN NARRATIVE
Design Communication, Fall 2014

Course: Design Communication II
Instructor: Jordan Kanter, Thomas Kearns
Collaborator: Andrés Infante, Faiza Mehmoodd, Renyi Zhang
Site: Uptown, Chicago, IL

Known as “Little Saigon” or “Asia on Argyle”, a neighborhood defined by North Broadway and West Argyle is one of the most unique places in Uptown as many other pocket neighborhoods of Chicago. This exercise focuses on how to read a piece of urban area and make narratives that showcase its exotic quality.

The first step is to model the site with the help of GIS, Google Street View and site pictures taken by the group. In the second step, each person will identify one characteristic that defines the whole area and make a visual composition to address it. The final project is telling a story in Uptown by modeling, rendering and collaging.
